Donations

Donating Update – July 2011

I’ve analysed cumulative donations over the 35 weeks since the start of running, back in October 2010.  Its interesting because it shows you the classic diminishing marginal returns on further running.  This doesn’t mean of course that I’ll be throwing in the towel, but shows that getting to £4,130 was a great achievement, but that to get up to £5,000 will be progressively more difficult. With an estimated 10 weeks remaining, it doesn’t appear at the current rate that I’ll achieve my target, unless there is a boost to donations!  So please help me to get to the target level by forwarding details of my endeavours to everyone you know!

Ways to Donate

1. On-line, through the Virgin Giving Money website - through which you can safely and securely pass your monies directly through to SANDS, and hopefully adding Gift Aid relief as you go!  The link to this external site is here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/runningthetubelines.

2. In person, when you next see me!

I will gladly accept cash or cheques (payable to SANDS) and then I will forward it on to the charity (I will most probably forward these on and evidence it on the site above, so you can see that I haven’t spent the money on sweeties!).  This is not as good as the first method of course because its more difficult to collate Gift Aid information and I’m not carrying a sponsor form with me all the time!  Also from a cash-flow point of view the charity will get funds directly if donating from the site.

If you have a very large donation of course, you can write a cheque and I will send that on because then the Virgin Giving Money website doesn’t needlessly take a % share in that donation!

3. Through a Company Payroll Giving Scheme

Whilst you’re at it…

Have you considered sponsoring one of the 412 segments that I’m running?  Just as a bit of fun, if you donate £10, £20 or £25 that you can become part of an exclusive club of Tube Running ‘tycoons’? See here for details of my ‘Sponsor Map’ (which shows you every single point I’m going to have to do) and share with the world the reason why – perhaps that’s where you work, where you were born, or just one of your favourite parts of town!  Just let me know which one you want when you make your donation.

For reference I initially used http://www.justgiving.com/runningthetubelines/ as a portal but I closed it in December 2010 because the charity doesn’t receive as much money at the end of the day because of higher transaction processing costs.

July 2011 Update – JustTextGiving!

I’ve created a JustGiving page to facilitate JustTextGiving.
Here’s how it works: Use any mobile phone carrier and text the code “TUBE88 £10” to the number 70070.  The full amount of your donation will be passed through to the charity. You may receive a follow up e-mail asking for gift aid details – in which case you can add this very simply.

If you want to donate another amount, you can do £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, or £10 in a single go – just change the number in the text message.  The most important thing is to use TUBE88 as the unique code.

Donations are recorded on the site: http://www.justgiving.com/tuberunningbytext
